AME no Jidai

AME NO JIDAI

robin

(no subject)

As usual of all usuals, I wasn't able to wake up as early as I intended to, making it almost a week of promises of waking up early for a morning's exercise.  I've accumulated a week's worth of flabs already, thanks to myself.  This is one con of being bum:  you wouldn't be able to get at least 30 minutes of walking to burn those fats off of you unless you're determined enough to get that lazy ass off that computer couch.  So here's to another morrow's promise.

My sister and I watched "Dinig Sana Kita" last night at UPFI.  It was a Cinemalaya entry directed by Mike Sandejas which won the Best Musical Score, Audience Choice Award and National Council for Children's Television Award.   Pretty much a romantic story between a rocker girl and a deaf boy who loves to dance, it didn't get into the sappy cheesy details but rather on themes revolving on family, friendship and belongingness.  So very unlike those we see in mainstream cinemas.  But then again, this is an indie film.  I'm pimping it to everyone who reads this.  It has the natural street humor, a romance without the cheese, issues without the drama and tear-jerking scenes that catch you off-guard.  A feel-good movie in the general sense, but we seldom see something of this kind nowadays anyway.  It will have its theater run starting on August 26 on Robinsons Galleria so please watch it.  Let's support our local film industry, yay~!

Still pimping, [info]up_ame 's birthday  is coming and another fair is being laid out for us otakus here in the Philippines.  AME no Jidai: First Wave is this year's theme, focusing on historic Japan and will be held on A-venue Makati for a change.  I'm rather excited on this one because the members will be wearing those yukata thingies (well, not exactly yukatas but I don't know what to call them).  If luck permits me, I might be enrolling next semester again and be part of it (or rather, I'll order one for myself, even if I don't necessarily have to help.  harhar).  I'll have the teaser on the next post because it's rather big and it'll ruin the text laden entry of this.

because i'm procrastinating again

Nabbed from [info]judikael.  Because 15 years ago seems just like yesterday, we are that old. XD

15 Years Ago, I:

1.  was one of the boys, sweating and running around the school's quadrangle, never really caring at all.
2.  tried to audition for the school's story-telling contest and discovered that I have this thing called stage fright.
3.  was scolded once, twice, and for the nth time by the teachers for being talkative (not noisy, just talkative.  there's a difference).
4.  was the only girl among the group left standing under the heat of the noon sun as a punishment for #1 deed.
5.  tried to audition for a lot more school activities but got turned down, either because I was too hyper or really didn't make it.  @.@

10 Years Ago, I:
1.  was watching Gundam Wing sparingly, because my sisters prefer Akazukin Cha-cha of the same timeslot (not that I didn't like ACC, but to watch it a number of times...)
2.  ended up on the 2nd section for the first time in three years, and realized that the people at the lower sections are more fun than those noobs at the first.  I got back to the noob section the next year.
3.  received too much attention that I didn't really needed, blaming it on being at the top of the class.
4.  had friends with whom I had the first experience of hanging out with (at random houses, random places, random etc).
5.  had a mortal enemy in class and we bickered here and there, even in the presence of our adviser and her failure to calm us down by assigning us seats at the opposite ends of the class.  ahh, such memories.

5 Years Ago, I:
1.  met new people who will make another batch of impact in my life.
2.  was able to use the word "yaoi" freely, because there's just no one to talk to back in high school.
3.  met fucking good professors.
4.  was suddenly flooded with lots of anime and manga sources, porn as well.
5.  never felt any better.  :D

3 Years Ago, I:
1.  had already dug my own academic grave several times, pulled myself out just in the nick of time, and never really learned from it.
2.  re-discovered One Piece and had a life.
3.  was thinking too much of Future that Present was almost left out of the Grand Plan.
4.  started writing my fantasy series and realized that building your own world is not as easy as I was conceiving it five years past.
5.  was trying to escape from the sludge of Orhan Pamouk but failed.

Last year, I:
1.  was bum
2.  was bum
3.  was bum
4.  had a troubled month.
5.   had an epiphany!  ... nah.

Yesterday, I:
1.  had a dream about work.
2.  called myself absent from work because of said dream.
3.  drooled at home, because my sister wouldn't let me touch my own computer.
4.  finished reading Kikomachine #4 and had a good laugh.
5.  thought of what to do with my life.

Today, I:
1.  am procrastinating.  again
2.  wishing I'll be able to reach 2,000 words in my article  within two hours.
3.  am wondering what am I doing here and why I am continuing to stay here.
4.  want to go home already.
5.  am listening to High School Musical music for some mysterious reason.

Tomorrow, I:
1.  hope that I'll be able to wake up early so that I can do my morning jog.
2.  will go to work, as always.
3.  will meet up with [info]judikael  at Ayala to borrow her XP installer
4.  will try to edit some art that's long been swimming in my virus-filled laptop.
5.  don't know.

3 Bad Habits I Have:
1.  procrastination
2.  I doubt and trust the wrong people most of the time.  Talk about instincts.
3.  I bite my nails.

Interests at the moment:
1.  Facebook's Restaurant City, Mafia Wars, Farmville and Pet Society.
2.  Drawing fan-arts when I have the time.
3.  Bollywood
4.  Beat Crusaders
5.  graphene

fangirl dump part 1 of ???

Because I've been meaning to do this months ago (2.1.1 in my Things To-Do Tomorrow Infinity list).

I've been reading manga more than I've been watching anime.  In fact, the only anime I religiously download and watch is One Piece.  But reading manga is part of my daily routine, consuming the 3+ hours of warm-ups before the subject for my next article crosses my mind.  I contribute to the wealth of those behind onemanga.com

So enough said of how much of a retard I am, here's a list of what takes up most of my hours in the office.  Why am I doing this?  Partly for pimapage, partly just because.

SHOUNEN (hah, so there's this category.  so am i expecting something from each genre?  yes you will).

#1 and the rest are in no particular order:

One Piece - Eiichiro Oda
     -  need I say more?

Naruto - Masashi Kishimoto
     -  This is an obligatory read because I've been dragged by the plotline since that epic-sasuke-naruto-reunion-of-all-times-omfg!  I liked it when they were just kids (and I swear I'll get my own anime copy of that Sasuke Retrieval Arc because it's just plain gay awesome).  I wouldn't want to get started with what is happening with the current chapters. ... okay, just a few insights:  I think that whole Nagato arc didn't contribute to the whole story whatsoever (or maybe i just missed something), if anything else, just to show Naruto how Sasuke really feels.  And obliterating Konoha and bringing back those people to life is just way too DBZ = done that, do something more creative orz.

Bakuman - Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata
     -  I started reading this series to see how they could pull of a type of manga that has virtually no action sequences and deals with slice-of-life themes.  But it got me hooked somehow and Mashiro's "I need you" and Takagi's "were like one soul in two bodies" are simply gay no matter how much I don't want to see it that way.  And it's like a how-to guide for those who want to make their own manga.  Wait, this is a shounen manga?

Code Breaker -  Akimine Kamijyo
     -  This is one of those mangas I am really looking forward to.  The premise is unique, for one, and the themes are rather dark and serious.  Not to mention characters that are an eye-candy I just want to draw a fanart of them someday (#1.1.7  in my Things To-Do Tomorrow Infinity).  I applaud those people who can pull off a Rei Ogami cosplay because wearing only a uniform requires the "play" from cosplay.

Fairy Tail - Hiro Mashima
     -  What I like about this manga is that OMFG ITS A HOTPOT OF FFFF- HOT CHARACTERS the mangaka draws well he can make Erza fucking hot in whichever angle or perspective.  Same goes for the rest of the characters *kyaan*Gray*kyaan*Loki*kyaan* I ship Gray x Erza as well.

Kuroshitsuji - Toboso Yana
     -  I love this manga so much that I loathed the anime and how the chapters leave us to epic cliffhangers for a fucking number of months.  And the art is amazing I wish the talent will trickle down on me.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn - Amano Akira
     -  I read the manga because it was easier to squeeze in between procrastination than watching the anime.  What I like about this manga is the fact the the lead protagonist, Tsuna, started out as weak and cowardly for a change.  It's something that you can't see in the current trend of manga and anime nowadays.  Although it's annoying at first, Tsuna is definitely hot when he goes into Hyper Dying Will mode.  There's Yamamoto/Gokudera and Hibari/Dino as well.  :3

Loveless - Kouga Yun
    -  Is this a shounen manga?  or do I have to put a "-ai" at the end?  Anyway, Loveless just makes me want to go *awww* everytime I see Soubi and hug him.  I like the master/slave fighter/sacrifice thing as part of the rules of their world, as well as the fact that everyone will know the moment you lose your virginity.  So this isn't a shounen manga afterall? *fails*

XXXHolic - Ohkawa Ageha
     -  Because it's CLAMP and the fact that Doumeki/Watanuki made me want to scour the net for slash fics.

Hunter x Hunter - Togashi Yoshihiro

     -  I can watch this anime over and over again and still won't get the nature of nen even if my life depended on it.  I really wish the mangaka will recover from whatever sickness he's into so that the manga can get done in no time and we can get past the crappy art when the anime gets released soon.  There's also the fact that Genei Ryodan is one of the badass group of villains that can rival Juppon Gatana.

So there, I think I missed something. Gah.  I was supposed to add the SHOUJO and YAOI categories but such a long post will beg me to put it under the cut.  So that'll be for the future posts I guess.  I want to read Soul Eater as well but I reserved it for my to-watch #4.4 already.

Any other suggestions?  :D

toycon splurge

I decided to cut myself some slack and finally spend the money I'm working hard for the last four months to something worthwhile.  So here comes ToyCon 2009.  I've been visiting conventions for the past five-six years but I only go around stalking taking pictures of cosplayers as well as "window shopping" at random merchandises.  And more often than not, I don't have the moolah.  So this time around, I decided to go for a change of habit.

Presenting my first convention splurge~

Pardon the quality of the picture.  It's taken on our dining table and my digicam was dying on me.

I wanted to collect Stitch stuffed toys for a very long time but they are just so damn expensive! I want to say that this Stitch will be my first in my future collection but its too early to say that.  But its quite cheap, 150php ($4) for something that's bigger than a stuffed CD case (and he looks so cute).  The hat (that gray one at the back, in case you didn't notice) was expensive for the simple design (250php / $6)  but I'm not the type that goes for too much thingamajigs.  And finally Brook!!!!!!!!!! It was surprising for me to buy one because it means that I have to start buying the rest of the crew fffff---.  But it was cheap for a figurine (is this what you call it?) with only 400php ($9) for me to spare.  And it's Brook, damnit, who looks like Brook unlike some figurines that have wtf- faces.  Not to mention [info]judikael was whispering in my ear to buy one (you, i fell for that!)

A final picture of Brook before my camera died on me.

He also has a teacup and the record(?) dial with him too. :3

There were gazillions of mini-top hat merchandises too but, after so much deliberation, I didn't buy one thinking that I can make one for myself (such confidence! we can right, [info]epithalamium002? :D)

So with this, I have to have to go back to my "vow of poverty" for the next two weeks.

somebody's spamming my friends' page!

and yeah, I'm looking at you, [info]xheno_zeta .  You can't just put them under one post, can you?  XD

Speaking of spams, I wanna post a pic spam, just random pictures of whatnots, because my laptop is dumped with random pictures of whatnots.  I'm still gathering new ones though, because being updated can be legendary [you don't get it? I don't either.]

I was supposed to post something today, a lot of things I thought about when I was finishing my BoAce fanartThat's basically how my brain works -  all those random unnecessary ideas hitching on your serious wagon of thoughts when you don't need them.  So procrastination wasn't a good idea and good thing I didn't procrastinate.  Anyway, I was planning to post an epic reaction on the latest two chapters of Naruto but, hell, I'm no longer in the mood.  Then there are those stamps I collected at my deviantart account, just random insights on them etc.  So blah blah...

What I can't not get excited over is the fact the MS. SWARMNOVACOIL HAS FINALLY TRANSLATED AND RELEASED JUNJOU ROMANTICA VOLUME 10 CHAPTER 2! I'm 2 days late, damnit! WOOT~ and the capslock still does not justify the surge of happiness I'm feeling right now.  My daily does of yaoi is finally complete!  Yay~

Yeho~

a very late thank you

Well, just a couple of days late.
To those who greeted me on my birthday, I present to you a thank you gift:

Ace and Hancock yay!

Okay, I do acknowledge the fact that to some, this pairing didn't even crossed their minds and a majority of you haven't really any idea who and who these two are for the life of it.  But I can't find anything worthy to share my love and this is what I've been doing all-nighters for the past few days.

I do ship them but not as entirely as I ship Zoro and Robin.  The pairing only came to mind during that one single chapter when they figured each other out without directly telling what's happening etc.  Yes, it's just me and my penchant for pairing couples that rarely share a screen time or panel together. I did ship Ace and Shanks once and they didn't even meet onscreen.

Woot~ Done finally after 283765 centuries of it accumulating dust in my harddrive (together with more linearts).  Too much photoshop made me want to go back to coloring my stuff manually so I guess I'm gonna dig those colored pencils and pastels sometime.  But I do wish I have a pen tablet. *cough*someone?*cough*

On a random note, I'm in love with Ace's hat and Hancock's sleeve.

Yay~ Now onto coloring those girl!mugiwaraboys.

little tidbits of what's happening so far, just in case you care

So basically I have loads of things to do, one of them is to finish coloring my BoAce fanart.  It's gone 50% already and I'm so proud of myself for having gone that far without lazing out and doing other things.

Other than that, my life is technically boring.  Technically speaking, I'm working and I'm working every day.  Every damn single day I have to go to the office and work.  Tells so much about how I hate my work, yes?

Virtually speaking, I'm virtually active.  Part of the reason is having internetz 24/7.  Good thing this company doesn't filter out "unwanted" sites;  I can still browse my pron.

My current hobbies include watching doramas, anime, movies or reading manga, books, comics or drawing.  And I'm currently looking for some hobby that doesn't require much from my eyes and hands.  Like, for example, drooling and staring out in space.

I want to cosplay.  And cosplay = moniz.  I'm saving up for something else though.

I have new LJ friends.  This is the first time I've friend-ed someone in LJ that I haven't met personally.  It has that fluffy feeling inside.  Although I'm sorry for these people for having to read my past and future rants about my life and the generalities of it.  Ohwell.

I plan to read LOTR again.  Though The Hobbit is screening two years from now, I would want to prep up for it already.  lolwat, fangirl.  Maybe I'll read Silmarillion first.  I wonder if the musical is still playing in London.  I wish I was there to see it.

I sound like a robot, don't I?  I'll post sometime soon with feelings and random whatnots.

Random whatnots include something like this:

What is says about you: You are a deep thinking person. You appreciate the roughness of nature. You feel closer to people when you understand their imperfections.

The Great Philippine Book Blockade of 2009

Attention to book lovers, has this caught your attention?

For those who do not wish to continue on to the subsequent links, the heart of the matter is this:

The Philippine Bureau of Customs has decided to impose taxes on imported books which, by all means, opposes international treatises such as the Florence Agreement.  The inner hear of the heart:  Added costs on our books?

*Florence Agreement is this UNESCO agreement to like, spread the love of progressive knowledge and learning through books and other materials, and have this exchange in "free flow" as much as possible.

Links are as follows:

"The Great Book Blockade of 2009" by Robin Hemly - this is basically the full story.

"The Great Book Blockade of 2009" by Manuel L. Quezon III on the Philippine Daily Inquirer - a shorter version with of course, the columnist's opinions

The following are blogs that reacted to the ones above as well as on the matter itself.

Twilight Coven Philippines on the matter.  Because they can't really help it when everyone's pointing fingers at their well-loved book.

A Charles Tan essay, clarifying things with Mr. Hemly's article.

The Great Philippine Book Blockade of 2009 Fallacies

Robin Hemly Responds to Charles Tan

Sorry for the numerous links.  This apparently tells that I haven't been that much enlightened with the issue, considering I read the the posts so fast.  Please enlighten me as well [and correct if my heart of the matter is not exactly as what I understood it is].

dreams

I realized I haven't been dreaming lately.  Or that if ever I did dream, I forget it once I open my eyes in awakening.

My last remembered dream was more than a week ago.  It was shoujoish--let us leave it like that.  After that there was nothing, not even that fading-away-as-you-regain-full-consciousness-thing.

Perhaps I'm just too exhausted from the day that my sleep is too deep to let its subconscious activities be remembered.  Before, I used to sleep as long as I can, only wake up at noon or even after that.  But when nightmares start to visit, that's when I know when to wake up early for a change.  Then I have good dreams again. Something like that.

Now its just nil.  Void.

I want to have dreams again.  Sandman, please come visit me once more.  T.T

*comic strips are taken from xkcd.com. Its actually a funny site for dorks, weird for non-dorks and both for those in-between.  Check out the site if you wish to read some physics-oriented dorkiness to kill time.

Let Me Laugh My Ass Off

Someone (hello, reya) posted this on plurk and I just got to share this to everyone.

Sandara Park is actually (or the possibility of going to) making it big in Korea.

For those lazy enough to click the link, here's the catch: they're making a 5-girl group in which Sandara Park (for those who have a short-term memory span, this girl had it big time 5 years ago. remember Star Circle Quest? In or out?) is a confirmed member.

Ok, give the girl a chance.  She has probably improved (or developed) some talent that'll give ABS-CBN a run for their money.

Before it had always been only training

<-- That was the first line to my long conceived zoroxrobin fic.  But it seems that I can't get past that first line.  I have the body, I have a rough idea of the end, but just getting them pieced together is plain difficult.  Ugh, my creative juices are still off and if I try to get into the mood, it would take me a whole freaking day to do so, which isn't really ideal for the situation I am in now.  Good thing the Boss won't be around for the next two days.  Until then I can lie low and spend my first three hours on the "creating the mood" mode.  I hope this is a good exercise, though.  A couple more weeks left before the deadline of this certain book being published.

-------------------------

On a random cheesy shoujo note:
I dreamt about crush-san last night.  I seldom dream about the things and people I like and think all the time that's why I was so happy it happened that I can forget about crush-san already.  Seriously.  I don't like crush-san anymore.
